Walking near Broadway in the Cotswolds I was struck by just how lucky we are. The landscape is just so quintessentially English – perfect for photography showing families and children in the environment they love.

My winning photos published in a book

I’m pleased that several of my photos from an international photography competition are now published in a book in aid of MacMillan cancer support, including one which won an award.

The winning images are published in a book called “Life is a bed of roses” and were judged by a panel which included photographer Mary McCartney (daughter of Paul and Linda McCartney), Paul Ross (television and radio presenter), as well as the public. A foreword was written by Tony Benn and his daughter Melissa Benn.

All of the profits from the book will go towards Macmillan Cancer Support, which is important to me personally – my Mum had cancer.

The innocence and purity of childhood

I’ve had the good fortune of winning an award in a professional photo competition in aid of MacMillan cancer support. The photo was given a “highly commended” award in the portrait category. I love the photo for the way it emphasises the purity and innocence of a child.

Children outdoors

A lovely family, in a great outdoor setting for children’s photography in the Cotswolds – a very enjoyable morning! These are a few of the photographs from a session this summer. Poppy was full of energy and ideas, and baby Florence just had an adorable smile. I particularly like the contrast of the children and the trees in the first image.

A Birmingham family

A few photos from a session of family photography in Birmingham with a very friendly and hospitable family, with lovely children who are great fun. Sarisha was a complete star! I was commissioned as their family photographer. We started in their home and garden, and then went to Cannon Hill Park in the centre of Birmingham.

Salford Priors family (near Stratford-upon-Avon)

A gorgeous fringe! Ruby and Jack and their Mum & Dad were a joy to photograph. The combination of Jack’s big eyes and great fringe is knockout! They are both good fun – a real testament to their parents, who chose me as their childrens photographer near Stratford-upon-Avon.
The photos were taken around their house & garden and in the grounds of a nearby hotel.

Photographic convention

Imagine 10,000 photographers, all in one large hotel in London! It was certainly crowded, but great to catch up with colleagues, get inspired with new ideas, and have some fun along the way. I’ll have some new products soon as a result! Here are some photos I took of two teenagers, brother and sister Heather & William, in an urban setting – Hammersmith to be precise, but it could just as well be Birmingham or any large town or city. They braved the cold very well!

PhotoFilms – an artistic, complete family record

I have created a unique way of recording the looks, voices, feelings and interactions of a family, all in one artistic package. A PhotoFilm combines images, music and voice to show in a very emotional way how the children feel, what they do, and how they sound. Have a look at this example about two sisters who are very close. Their family have a copy on DVD and can watch it on their TV. They were great to photograph – very easy going, a lovely family. It lasts about 3 mins. Barnt Green baby

One of this year’s photo-sessions that I particularly enjoyed was in Barnt Green - a great couple (who are brilliant parents!) whose baby was around 6 months old. The baby had such striking blue eyes that I had to make them really noticeable in some of the photos. We used the big living room and the nursery of their lovely house, and ended up putting together a beautiful Artbook (album) that really shows the way their family is at the moment. The grandparents also had smaller copies of the Artbook.

Photography Workshop

We all need to learn in our chosen careers. A couple of weeks ago I did some training with one of the best US children’s photographers – Cheryl Jacobs. At her very informal & unique workshop I learnt how to get a bit more “soul” in my photos – a little bit more under the skin of the person being photographed. I’ll be aiming to turn more everyday moments in family life into artistic images! Here’s a few photos I took on the workshop. Let me know what you think….
